10 years ago the children of Gorran School were photographed for The Cornish Guardian walking across the muddy fields that they wanted to turn into a path. It wasn’t until after a Dream Catchers project run by The Eden Project in 2009 that the right groups of people from Cornwall Council and Sustrans were brought together to help make the ‘dream’ a reality.

After a lot of different routes had been investigated work finally began on the path this spring.

The new path – actually a multi-use trail for walkers and cyclists – runs from Gorran Haven to Gorran, creating a walking link between the two villages avoiding the busy road.  There is a new entrance to the school onto the path and a large new bike shed provides plenty of space for children’s bikes.

A launch party was held by the school to celebrate the achievement and lots of pupils, now at The Roseland Community College, who had been part of the project team in the past were invited back to see the opening of the path.

First there were speeches of thanks, including one from Lucy, one of the children involved in the original presentation at Eden and now a Year 9 student at The Roseland. Then the ribbon was cut by Rosie, our youngest pupil, Lucy, Local Councillor Denise Mutton and Simon Murray from Sustrans.

The whole school, guests and parents then walked the path whilst the school’s ukulele orchestra played their specially written song for the footpath. It was a lovely, joyous event that was enjoyed by all.

The ukulele orchestra from the Lions class were amazing this afternoon at Caerhays Castle. The event was held to raise money for the Cornwall AIr Ambulance – the scenery was perfect and the music inspirational!

Well done to all involved….

There will be no pre-school this coming Friday due to the Inset day.

We’ve done really well – thank you to everyone who has taken the time to vote for the Hedgehogs! The total stands at 93% as of 20th April.  How about a few more votes? 100% would be nice …

We only have until 20th April to register support on http://www.havenfunfitness.com/ in order to qualify for some new, free outdoor equipment. It’s really simple to do so please pledge your support A.S.A.P as we need 100% of you to do this. It’s important to remember that you will need to follow the link on the email they send you in order for your support to be registered. Sometimes this goes to your junk mail folder so do please check it or your support will not be counted! Thank you very much.

We have lots of exciting things planned for the term, to include seeing some real life animals which are being brought into pre-school, and also some trips out, which we will tell you more about soon.

Our topic this term is the Julia Donaldson books, which include The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom and The Smartest Giant in town.  If you haven’t already seen George’s masterpiece do please ask your small person to show you!

Thanks to all of you who came and supported our Easter celebrations at the end of last term.  The egg hunt was great fun, and the children did really well in the sponsored bunny hop!  Please can you bring in your sponsorship money by 28th April.
