Medieval banquet for infants…

Posted on November 19, 2012Author Head

The Giraffe and Elephant classes have been finding out what life would have been like in medieval times.

To help get into the spirit, the children built their own castle, cooked a medieval feast of potage and gingerbread and then dressed up to enjoy it all. There was feasting dancing and even the staff got into the spirit!

Our regular Parent Cafes create a relaxed, welcomi Our regular Parent Cafes create a relaxed, welcoming space where parents feel comfortable engaging with the school. We feel that this directly benefits children’s learning and wellbeing and fosters the best working relationships between home and school.

Last week’s Parent Cafe was hosted by Carly Brooker, from the Cogniton and Learning Team who shared lots of great information on working memory.

Carly explained how the brain works, especially the pre-frontal lobe in working memory.
She identified different types of memory (sensory, working and long-term) and showed how working memory acts like a “mental shelf” that temporarily holds information. If this shelf becomes overloaded—due to stress, fatigue, anxiety, or distractions—learning becomes harder, not because a child lacks ability, but because information is lost too quickly.
She also highlighted that working memory supports thinking, impulse control, internal self-talk, and attention.
Some useful parents tips were talked about. These will be added to our School Dojo as they are brilliant for all children as our working memory really develops between the ages of 2 to 10.
Carly then carried out a workshop with all the KS2 pupils about the brain!

Our next parent cafe is on March 4th with a member of the Autism in Schools team.
It’s coming to the end of cross country season but It’s coming to the end of cross country season but our success continues! One more race to go! Sterling effort from the whole team with Years 4-6 all enjoying top five finishers! Go Gorran! We are so proud of you!
